A fingerprint specialist is a forensic science technician who processes and analyzes fingerprints taken for criminal or civil purposes, such as to identify a suspect or as part of a background check for employment. In addition to taking physical fingerprints, fingerprint specialists process them electronically to be stored in databases, which they might also search to find matches.
